Fishing
Fishing is the most popular participative sport in the UK and we can offer good sea fishing within easy walking distance, whilst trout fishing is also available only 1 mile away.Sea fishing offers the widest variety of species and there is no charge!
The following species are commonly caught from the shore: Mackerel, Conger, Thornback Ray, Coalfish, Pollack, Dogfish (Lesser Spotted), Wrasse, Sea Trout, Flounder and Cod.
The 3.5 lb (1.6 kg) Pollack shown opposite was taken on float tackle using mackerel as bait - January 2006.
Mackerel are usually around in huge shoals from June until early September, but they can be caught in smaller numbers at almost any time of year. The most popular method is to use feathers or mackerel traces and it is not unusual to catch 4 or 5 decent sized fish at one time. Mackerel are excellent to eat and they don’t come much fresher than these! July 2005.
Mention Scotland and fishing together and most people think about Salmon - the King of fish. Its cousins - Sea Trout and wild Brown Trout are almost as popular.
We can’t guarantee that you’ll catch a salmon, but we will use our local experience and contacts to give you the opportunity to pursue these wonderful and wily game fish.
Young Duncan shows off his Salmon, Sea Trout and Brown Trout - Summer 2005.
